Very Ralph, Very Martha

"Right now we are in a very minimalist period in fashion, and so I regularly get instructions from art directors to 'make it look very Ralph Lauren,' which means they're looking for something very preppy, very Old Money, very English country-house conservative. Or they ask for 'a very Martha look,' which means they want Martha Stewart's kind of clean, organized, modern American country with retro touches of nostalgia. Of course, I know which individual elements comprise these looks. The challenge is to pull it off on time, on budget, and with my own personal twist."
